All sounds in the track excluding the guitar come from the Yamaha TG300 sound module (both stock and modified patches). In the signal chain, the computer/DAW acts as a sequencer in the first phase. In the second phase, individual instruments are recorded from the sound module into the PC, track by track (so the DAW functions as an “8-track”), from where they are sent via ADAT to a Yamaha 02R digital mixer, where mixing, EQ, compression, and effects take place. For the guitar and some other elements, a new, albeit cheap but handy, guitar multi-effect Valeton GP-100 is used via the mixers AUX lightly. The intro and outro are recorded on a Toshiba PC-G3 tapedeck, and the resulting flange effect comes from blending the original and tape signals. The final mix is then sent back from the mixer as a stereo line into the DAW, where final EQ and limiting are applied.
The TG300 is connected to the 02R from the very beginning, so there’s only a single A/D conversion when recording into the DAW. Conversions to/from the tapedeck and the guitar multi-effect also went through the 02R. The guitar is recorded directly via A/D of the Presonus FireStudio interface.
