The very foundation/inspiration for this track was the pad sound that can be heard right from the beginning all the way through – my very first custom sound created from an empty INIT patch on the Roland D-10 synthesizer (a specific type of LA (Linear Arithmetic) synthesis), which I designed using Sound Diver (an old PC program that communicates with older synthesizers via MIDI and provides a visual interface for sound design instead of menu diving on a two-line display, which I probably would never have dared to tackle myself – my respect to the generation that created sounds without this tool). I sampled the drum sounds from a Yamaha RX15 into an Akai S3000XL, which allowed for subtle tweaking of the individual sounds (filter, pitch, etc.) compared to using the drum machine on its own, which is very basic and for which I no longer have room on my desk anyway :) Guitar processed through a Valeton GP-100, additional elements through the internal effects of a Yamaha 02R mixing console, and for the first time on the drums, a Behringer DSP2024P VIRTUALIZER PRO, which I added to my rack in the meantime. Bass – Yamaha S30, piano – Kurzweil Micro Piano, later on, one passage features my most beloved “Warm Pad” from the Yamaha TG300, and the hidden message at the end is a simple sound from my first semi-modular analog synthesizer, the Behringer Neutron (I’ll probably need another parallel lifetime to learn how to do something truly complex and meaningful with it) :)
